November SEED salon: STEVE COLLINS on GAME DESIGN AND PHYSICS

WHAT IS "RAGDOLL PHYSICS"? How can we simulate the laws of physics in 3D games? What possibilities for artists and scientists might game physics engines present? DR STEVEN COLLINS is currently a lecturer in Computer Science in Trinity College Dublin and manager of the graphics research group, the ISG Lab. He co-founded Havok, the leading developer of real-time physics and animation middleware for the game and movie industries and was CEO and then CTO. Steve is still affiliated with Havok, and is currently chairing the Havok Advisory Board. He also acts as a consultant for various companies and government agencies and is a board member of Dyoptyka, an Irish start-up exploring innovative applications of dynamic optics, and the Irish Chapter of the International Game Developers Association. His research interests are in real-time rendering and animation and global illumination techniques.
